The hallmarks of a Winter Wonderland wedding are icy sparkle and plenty of shimmer. This is a very fun idea to capture in a bridal gown. Look for a lustrous white silk gown, rather than one in ivory or champagne. Choose a style that has a grand presence, such as a very full ballgown with a box pleated skirt. Then think about the details. Silver embroidery and crystal beadwork are a must! Heavy embellishments will not look like “too much” for this fantasy style wedding. Ornate architectural designs make for gorgeous embroidered motifs. Or select a feminine vine pattern. Avoid anything that is too summery, like embroidery in the form of daisies.

If you prefer a lace gown, this can also be made to work beautifully with your Winter Wonderland theme. A silver lace would make an exquisite and unforgettable accent on a white silk gown. Or choose an all over lace bridal gown, such as a fine Calais lace, that is beaded with hundred of twinkling crystals that will sparkle as you walk down the aisle. Even your veil can feature crystal accents.

No wedding gown is complete without the perfect finishing touches. A sparkling headpiece is great for a Winter Wonderland bride. Choose a tiara, a double headband, a festive comb, or a set of hairpins. Crystals and rhinestones can be mixed with tiny pearls for the perfect icy snowflake look. In fact, you can even get hairpins or other jewelry that is made in the shape of a snowflake. A snowflake pendant is a fantastic gift idea for your bridesmaids. You will want plenty of other twinkling touches, too, such as stacks of Swarovski crystal bracelets, chandelier earrings, and a fabulous crystal necklace.

As popular as red is for winter weddings, it makes too strong a contrast to the icy white palette that characterizes this theme. Opt for bridesmaid dresses in a color like silver, platinum, or champagne instead. They will look just as festive, yet will not be a distraction from the decor. Certainly the bridesmaids will also want to shimmer. Sets of Swarovski crystal bracelets, earrings, and necklaces would be the perfect finishing touch, perhaps created in the colors of their dresses.

The flower girl can have a dress made from the same fabric as the bridesmaid dresses. Another wonderful option is a velvet dress. Black patent leather mary jane shoes with white tights will be perfect for her lower half. And that brings us to the men in the wedding, which is easy: tuxedos. They have the right degree of sophistication and formality for a fabulous Winter Wonderland wedding. After all, the bride is the star of the day, but the groom deserves to look great too!

With the emergence of the candy bar and cupcakes as modern wedding trends, the only logical next step are entire candy themed weddings. A candy inspired wedding can work for any season, and will appeal to the sweet tooth in all of us. Since candy comes in many shapes, colors, flavors and sizes, you may want to stick to a theme such as peppermint for winter weddings or bright colors for summer events. Another plus is that candy is relatively cheap to decorate with and won’t break your budget. Here are some ideas for creating a retro-sweet shop wedding theme.

The Candy Bar - of course no candy inspired wedding could be without a sweet bar. Fill large glass containers of varying shapes and sizes with a selection of sweets in complimentary colors to create an eye-catching display. Provide paper bags imprinted with your names for guests to fill.

Centerpieces – fill a larger vase with inexpensive candy such as conversation hearts or colored marshmallows and inset a smaller vase inside with candy colored flowers. Alternatively, you could purchase mini topiaries and wrap the stems in white satin (to look like a lollipop stick) and attach candy to the branches and cover the soil with candy stones (designed to look like real stones) jelly beans, or other candy. For a DIY idea, Styrofoam balls, silk flowers, candy, wooden craft dowels, ribbon and terra cotta pots can be made into handmade centerpieces.

Table numbers - create table numbers from 5″ x 7″ cardstock printed off your printer or purchase pre-printed numbers. You can then stamp candy inspired designs onto the stock. Attach to dowels, and insert into a tall glass filled with candy.

The Reception
Your reception decorations are where you can really have fun with your winter wedding. The tables can be draped in cool whites, silver or ice blues. Scatter your tables with fluffy snow, or add shimmer with snowflake confetti. Light up the room with tea lights or candles surrounding the centerpieces, or placed strategically around each table.
